After leaving our Harvest Host boondocking site in McCammon, Tom and I headed north on Interstate 15 to Pocatello then west on Interstate 86 to connect with Interstate 84 leading to Boise.

Sights along the way

As we drove north on I-15, we passed through the small town of Inkom, Idaho which is located on the Portneuf River. The town’s claim to fame is having an airport with the smallest runway in the world. It has a length of only 400 ft (122 m). But, when Tom and I passed through Inkom, all we noticed was the flooding. Rows of semi trucks and other equipment were standing in several feet of water. A YouTube video, before and after the Portneuf River flooded, illustrates the extent of the flooding.

Soon after passing through Inkom, we reached Pocatello and found a very nice dog park. Katie’s Dog Park is just a few minutes from the interstate and well worth the stop. It has two large fenced areas, one for small dogs and one for big dogs. Aly enjoyed nearly an hour of nonstop playtime with lots of big, energetic dogs.

As we headed west from Pocatello, we passed American Falls Reservoir. Tom and I were particularly interested in seeing this reservoir because when we camped there a few years ago the water level was so low it was practically unusable for recreation. Driving by this year, the reservoir appears to be filled to the brim. The Snake River below the dam was also full; and as smooth as glass. It looked like a lake!

Relaxing in Boise

When we reach Boise, Tom and I were happy to take a break from driving. We enjoyed several long, sunny days with old friends at their beautiful home.

Aly especially loved meeting their boy, Bo. She monopolized Bo’s time and energy. But, eventually I got a chance to catch up with Bo myself!

We look forward to seeing Paul, Liz and Bo again very soon!
